In the practise of tolerance, obnoxious people will test your inner peace all the time. They will laugh about everything you do. They will spread fake news about your skills, personality, intentions, relationships, everything that puts you in a good and highlighted position. They will try to brainwash you to make you believe you have a psychological problem, to make you believe they are trying to help you with the way they interact and behave, as part of a strategy to make you see for yourself you need help. Everything to disturb your inner peace; to make you manifest your anger; to put you in a difficult position. The moment you start to recognise what are the true colours and intentions of obnoxious people surrounding the self, it is the moment you gain more awareness, clarity, and peace of mind to continue practising love and compassion attitudes.
While facing situations where people start being obnoxious towards the self, we have a wonderful opportunity to learn and practise how to control our own emotions. It is through the practise of our mind training we are able to recognise the manifestation of negative emotions, regarding a specific situation we feel uncomfortable about. By taking samples of such negative manifestations we can learn the patterns about what triggers, internally, the experienced negativity. Like Buddha, the enlightened one, we could start observing, analysing, understanding, and getting conscious about what happens in the present moment, instead of blaming the self in an out of understanding belief regarding the presence of psychological problems. The moment we realise the power of our own mind, it is the moment we understand we are not able to deal with anything properly out of consciousness.
Thus, the first step to start strengthening the self, boosting the confidence to tap into our true nature, is realising the intrinsic inversion of control of life experiences, while facing challenges anytime, anywhere, and at any circumstances. We could not impose control over something on the outside, but we could, and we should, control the self regarding anything we are experiencing. By exercising such inversion of control we become aware about who we really are, which implies we get ready to start learning from any source, including our own suffering. The more we do it, the less we embrace suffering and its associated negativity.
The power to control our own life is deep inside. The power to manifest positive emotions towards the self, and others, is within our own mind. The capability of tapping into the unlimited power of our own mind depends on the ability to use our consciousness, no matter the circumstances. The moment we realise how to learn what could not be taught, it is the moment we understand how to acquire knowledge to understand our own suffering.
