Luxury…Deception…Personal and social agreements. Inside the reign, deep into the palace, a clear separation between nobles and slaves. All of them creatures of love. All of them human beings. All of them experiencing two sides of a shared environment, where the exploration and cultivation of suffering are established. The treatment of a human being like a disposable thing is seen as a normal and required behaviour, a trace of education within the secrecy of a self-named superior race, versus a slave labour whom must know his/her place. Shakyamuni Buddha has recognised such difference, leaving the palace in the search for understanding suffering, the central piece of the puzzle about human evolution, and the characterisation of the aforementioned behaviour. The moment we realise we still have traces of slavery within our current education system and society, in a similar way observed more than 2500 years ago, it is the moment we understand why the understanding of suffering and it...

Today completes one year of the domain neartword.com, representing officially one year of the NeartWord project, which means one year of publishing messages every single day. It has been a tough year but a delightful journey of enhancing the self, sharing my experiences of understanding the teachings of Buddha through the writing of the aforementioned messages. Those understandings have helped me in the task of shining the inner light we have inside, and walking towards the path of a meaningful life. I, Jeferson Souza (thejefecomp), the almost 40 years old guy that has a surname spelled with a missing letter ‘f’ as his first name, which emphasises the uniqueness of the self, would like to thank all of you reading messages published by the NeartWord project. I am grateful that, in any circumstance, those messages have helped you grow as a human being, as much as I have grown in this one year period. The moment we free ourselves from our own ignorance, it is the moment we understan...

The moment we are looking for answers deep in the self, trying to make a correlation with something we may observe in the surroundings, it is the moment we may face something we are not totally prepared to face, and learn about. The observation may become a heavy-weight challenge, the reasoning a lifetime process, and the understanding part of a long and deep journey of knowledge acquisition. If we try to pull too early, we may not realise how big is what we have contact with, and therefore a period of suffering gets us unguarded. If we close our third eye to the challenge we are facing, we may jump to wrong conclusions derived from putting aside any consideration about something we simply disregard the presence. The right strategy is the one that is suitable to our own perspective and relativity.  Sometimes we may think that having questions with no answers characterises a lack of knowledge, but having answers with no questions is the conditioned act of a mind experiencing ...

The source of self-enhancement requires overcoming our own Intelligence, an unnoticed drawback out of consciousness. I recommend any of you to visit the website of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which provides a source of knowledge about human rights related material. The moment we recognise our love nature in those fundamental rights, it is the moment we understand violating human rights of someone else is nothing more than violating and corrupting our own nature. If we are not able to see that, or if we believe there are exceptions allowing us to perform those violations, suffering is then part of our conditioned actions, and stepping out of it the only way to see what cannot be seen out of consciousness. Let us use the wonderful intelligence we have access to through our brain, thinking about how changing the world is related to changing our own self. We cannot control or change another, and therefore we cannot change the world by changing or restricting the actions o...

Dignity is priceless. Do not trade yours for anything. Fight for it. It is one of your fundamental rights. Fight with honour and with the laws. No one can take off your dignity. If someone did, do not take revenge on rage. Wait. Ancient knowledge says let karma do the work. Try to live your life as happy as you can within your current situation. Live. Love. Be proud of yourself. The moment we let violations of our human rights trigger the manifestation of negative emotions, it is the moment we step into a period of suffering, and the chaos derived from that period. The fundamental human rights declared in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are applied to any human being walking on the surface of this planet called Earth. Basically, such fundamental rights establish rules that are just enforcing what is already into our love nature. Those rules would be pointless if violations promoted by the huge suffering observed within society were not performed, implying a society with...

The more we walk towards the light to enhance our peace of mind, the more we understand consciousness is a fundamental tool we have to keep at hand. With no consciousness we may fall into the trap of seeing anything from a negative perspective, recognising a glass of water half empty instead of half full, a source of water we have at hand but we cannot see useful at the moment. We may seek support in the external world while the fundamental change should be performed within, deep in the self. The journey of getting answers starts with the understanding that the more knowledge we possess, the more knowledge we need to acquire. We rebuild the sequence of events, searching for something we were not able to observe in a specific moment in the past. We establish correlations we could not establish before. We perform reasoning to the self, in order to find out a single piece of knowledge that may be able to connect everything, like the lost piece of a puzzle we are trying to solve. We ...

The moment consciousness is at hand, and we are facing an obnoxious situation with direct and indirect consequences to our life, it is the moment we understand the roots of suffering, and the desire consuming a person to obtain, control, or dominate a given scene. The moment we are obnoxious we are doing nothing more than trying to control the actions and reactions of another, expecting anxiously such a person would react the same way we are acting in the present moment, configuring the point characterising the inversion of control. The conditioning could be easily followed by an unconscious mind but it is also easily identified by consciousness itself. It is like spreading the word that the formation in the picture has been created by forms of life coming from another planet, with no single experience that can be performed to realise it. The moment we believe in something out of understanding, it is the moment we fall right into the trap of suffering: doing something with no ide...

The use of a non-judgemental attitude does not imply the distortion of justice, which in its deepest meaning is materialised in anything that is distant from our love nature, implying: (1) the establishment of laws to enable citizens around the world to defend themselves while living in society; and (2) the elimination of laws that are clearly promoting violations on the rights and duties of those citizens. A non-judgemental attitude can be interpreted by the use of consciousness to observe a situation with an open mind, analysing any aspect of the presented scene, reasoning about the different hypotheses that can be considered on the case, and understanding the results (or the lack of them) that can be extracted from the performed observation. Every time we make a decision about any aspect of our life we are passing a judgement affecting the self. The moment we realise a non-judgemental attitude is characterised by the understanding of anything happening within the self, and in ...

It is not an easy task working out on enhancing the self, and practising our mind training on a regular basis. No two persons have neither the same walking path nor perspective, as our persona, personal space, relativity, and sight of life are unique, and not the same. We work with the tools we have at hand. We practise within the environment we live in, and facing the challenges such an environment presents to us. However, we enhance using the same tool as the foundation: consciousness. The moment we realise enhancing the self requires consciousness at hand, it is the moment we understand why a meaningful life has similar traces even in different and unique places. Everyday we wake up to face challenges life presents to us, conscious or unconscious about what lessons we could extract from those challenges. Some of the challenges are easy going, requiring little or no effort from our consciousness to keep focused, delegating to the unconscious mind the task of responding to any r...

Performing our mind training involves a continuous brainstorming of ideas, which is adapted to our perspective and relativity in order to search, and find, a suitable solution to enhance the self in a meaningful way. We practise the results of our mind training during specific challenges and experiences we have contact with. We see the effectiveness and efficacy of some measures, and the requirement of adaptations to situations that such effectiveness and efficacy need to be improved, while we use our consciousness to extract wonderful lessons to remain focused, motivated, and engaged in the journey to achieve peace of mind. The moment we realise perfection is not part of the slope of self-enhancement, it is the moment we understand enhancing the self is not a straight path to the meaningful garden but a personal learning curve adapted to our own perspective and relativity experienced within the environment we live in. Imagine we have to face a challenge of running for one hundre...

Ideas come to our mind by the use of our consciousness, based on observation and reasoning, which are important steps to reach the understanding about what we are thinking. With no ideas we have no promotion or production of useful knowledge, neither to enhance the self nor help others. With no ideas we have just the conditioning followed out of consciousness, and derived from the execution of actions we think little or nothing about their true purpose. We are not able to answer simple questions like: “what?”, or “why?”. The automatic and conditioned answers just come out from the month to say: “it is like that, and it was always like that”. The moment we realise the use of consciousness implies asking questions about subjects we would like to obtain answers, motivating the investigation and search of knowledge required to perform such understanding, it is the moment we understand enhancing the self to step out of suffering can only be achieved by conscious acts. The difference b...

Suffering is a human creation. The creation of our own mind. Basically, we suffer when the reality is different from our expectations. We suffer when we expect others to be kind and they are rude; we suffer when we expect our girlfriends/wives to be kind and they are indifferent; we suffer when we want to buy something and we have no money. The truth is: we suffer for nothing. The only good thing about suffering is the understanding of it. At the moment you understand your own suffering, you suffer no more. However, suffering is not a static concept, and understanding suffering is a daily basis activity we have to carry on during our current lifetime. Every moment we face a difficult situation, suffering could be manifested by ourselves in many different ways. Suffering has no single pattern, no single colour, no single configuration, or no single place we are prone to experience it. Suffering is a response we provide to a question we have no suitable answer for. The moment we st...

Our heart has to be strong enough to deal with all negativity we have contact with in the present moment. It does not mean it has to be carved in metal or stone but it has to be strong as it was. The moment we realise our love nature is tested any time we experience an obnoxious situation, it is the moment we understand why it is important to enhance the self, and achieve peace of mind by understanding instead of ignorance or avoidance. The more we understand ourselves and what the surroundings present to us, the more we understand the importance of mind training, and the benefits it promotes to the self. The heart becomes soft and tenacious, at the same it remains strong and resilient to darkness and associated negativity. Peace of mind is something we have to enhance every single day, based on all the experiences we have within our perspective and relativity. We are all tested differently every instant of our life. There are some persons tested to the extreme, requiring the man...

The conditioning of suffering does what the picture represents very well: it blinds us to the fact there is something out there but we are not allowed to see our touch. The moment we try to see our eyes get covered, and the moment we try to touch our hands get striked and marked with the same blocking material covering our eyes. It is by using our consciousness that we can free ourselves from that unconscious and conditioned prison, realising external judgement may be harsh and discriminatory but our own understanding carries the power of liberty, freeing the self from the slavery of negativity, and vanishing the inability to see the awesomeness deep inside. Let us look deep inside and ask the self: what is the purpose of a discriminatory act? What is the purpose of a negative criticism? What is the purpose of labeling someone with a negative classification? What is the purpose of observing the behaviour of another instead of our own behaviour? If we start a reasoning process, wi...

We cannot control what a person chooses to get imprinted on his/her hands, which can be influenced by a conditioning promoted by an external entity. The moment we use the power of our own mind we get to choose what values we would like to follow, and to pursue, on the path towards a meaningful life. However, there are some values that cannot be carried on during the journey through such a path, and harming another is one of them. The moment we realise we have no rights to harm another, and no way to control an external action of someone else, it is the moment we understand our conscious decisions should be based on the knowledge we are able to acquire from the observation of the environment in the present moment. Life is the highest gift we have received, and it is something we have to protect by practising our mind training. Observing, reasoning, realising, and understanding are some activities that are part of the awakening process to become aware about what is happening in the...

The foundations and ramifications of the mind represents the duality of two perspectives we use to acquire understanding of every situation we experience. At a compassionate and kind point of view we see the benefits to the self, the enhancements, the light behind the scene, the ideas and the nuances of possibilities to explore with such a new knowledge at hand. On the perspective of suffering, otherwise, we have contact with all the side-effects of embracing negativity, the manifestation of negative emotions, the sensations bouncing into the live vessel, which are able to generate a ripple effect of the infinite loop deep into chaos. The moment we use our consciousness to recognise and be aware of these two perspectives, it is the moment we understand why acquiring knowledge from our own suffering requires a high conscious state. Let us remember the goodness of being in contact with our love nature, taking care of the self and others with the flame of love burning deep into our ...

Love and hate represent two sides and two opposite directions of things we have to master in order to achieve peace of mind. At one side a big arrow of love, implying the accumulation of all the good energy we can manifest through our love nature. On the other side small and numerous arrows of hate, fractions of negative feelings experienced in different situations, and triggered from different reactions on different occasions. By practising our mind training we are able to realise numbers are nothing when we address the mastery of our senses, the power we have inside. Why? One may ask. If we just look carefully into the picture, there is always a space between every arrow of hate, which our arrow of love can trespass with little or no effort regarding energy consumption. The moment we realise just by enhancing the self we have no single match of hate able to disturb our peace of mind, it is the moment we understand we do not need to go with the flow of negativity, we just need t...

What is behind an obnoxious situation? Have you ever thought about the previous question? There is a very tiny line between love and hate, as there is one between compassionate and obnoxious. However, even being separated by a tiny line there is a huge difference between those positive and negative foundations of human behaviour. One clear characteristic about the aforementioned difference is the use of silence. In a kind and compassionate perspective, based on the love nature we have inside, silence is the foundation of understanding, meaning the ability of listening before asking the right, and sometimes, tough questions. There is no poke, provocation, or any negative act from the person entering into a silent state. While in an obnoxious perspective, however, silence is the foundation to the conditioning of hate. Before silence, there is a lot of poking, provocation, and negative acts to cause the target person to manifest a negative reaction, which is rewarded with nothing mo...

Give yourself a break in order to understand and find out where the source of negativity is. Understanding origins is fundamental to prevent embracing darkness, implying we are able to diminish the negative stimulation reaching directly our brains from any source, and at any circumstances. Let us imagine a supersonic sound buzzing into the ears. Could we concentrate on feeling the uncomfortable sensation caused by such a sound 24/7? Could we shut down such a sound from a place we have no control of? The practise of our mind training is focused on what we can control to diminish the effects of what we cannot, protecting our mind and the live vessel from the negative energy we have contact with. The more we realise where the key point of our inner peace is, the more we understand how we can improve our practise to achieve peace of mind, eventually. Resilience is the word that represents our capability to resist anything we are experiencing in the present moment, resulting in bendin...

Quote of the Week

"Don't worry too much if you cannot remain calm both when facing an obnoxious person or within a stressful situation. As Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is used to saying: it is OK not to be OK. The important thing is to recognise you can improve and become more calm. I still have not reached my full inner peace but I believe the path is to understand and learn what bad experiences have to teach us. Having bad experiences is not necessarily bad at all. Don't be afraid to live your life because you are within an environment full of obnoxious people and stressful obstacles. If you want to help others, I believe reaching your inner peace is a mandatory step." --- Jeferson Souza (thejefecomp).   There are moments we live that we cannot go back to but we are able to register, creating a good memory that represents the link to a past we would like to build upon it. There are also moments that represent together a period of time that has passed, a time that cannot be changed, a time that must be remembered as it provides us knowledge. Knowledge that may involve suffering itself, derived from the fact we could not realise our inability to understand the violation of humanity, and the needs to stand up strong and tall in the face of experiences, studies, imprisonment, atrocities caused by the ignorance derived from a human being that classifies another as a puppet that can be played by out of his/her consent. The moment we realise there is no way to make time, it is the moment we understand change is the only way to prevent Genocide or any type of similar protocol to repeat themselves, again and again, restricting many lives of humankind, or any other sentient being, to be de...

The moment we realise how we could tap deep inside our own mind, it is the moment we understand we become someone different in the middle of the crowd, establishing the last last piece of the puzzle that is almost ready to be filled into the available empty space of our current life journey. We get conscious about the state of our own mind, aware that no state could keep us from the search of answers about the whole configured puzzle, which pass from dealing with the manifestation of our own emotions to the hidden barriers we find out the moment we start acquiring knowledge, based on the migratory path we set on the improvement of the self. The more we get conscious about our own mind power, and what it can do to enhance and contribute to the universe itself, the more we get aware of the huge challenge we have at hand at every place we stand. Peter Parker, the fictional character that becomes himself the famous Spiderman, has received a wonderful piece of advice before he decided...

Obnoxious is a state we feel about a situation we have no control of, posing a clear restriction on what we can do, which may trigger negative emotions to feed the self to feel what has been felt. There are two clear approaches to deal with situations we find obnoxious: (1) conditioning the self to suppress emotions regarding the experienced situation, which is unconscious, based on faith, and need no acquisition of knowledge and understanding about what is happening; or (2) using our consciousness to identify what we find obnoxious on a given situation, and most important, why we find what we have found obnoxious. In that way we can perform observation, reasoning, and acquire understanding about how we can deal with that kind of situation, in a way we keep aware of what is happening in the present moment. The moment we realise why suppressing emotions is just hiding in a corner of the room of suffering, it is the moment we understand knowing the whats, whys, and hows is the foun...

We may let someone, or something else, have control over a situation but we cannot let it be out of our supervision. There are an infinite number of possibilities where things may go wrong the moment we just walk blindly on the path of life, being not aware and conscious about what is happening in the present moment. We may have no issues and awesome flights even if we are totally unconscious and unaware of the journey. However,  a tiny little disturbance that requires our conscious intervention may be catastrophic, as the external is not capable of handling it properly, and the little knowledge we have about the case, and the time we get aware of it, reduces the number of possibilities we have at hand to save the day. The more we realise we are the only ones capable of controlling the self, the more we understand why consciousness is the foundation and the key for that control. We may be used to getting into our comfort zone, letting someone, or something else, take care of...
