We may let someone, or something else, have control over a situation but we cannot let it be out of our supervision. There are an infinite number of possibilities where things may go wrong the moment we just walk blindly on the path of life, being not aware and conscious about what is happening in the present moment. We may have no issues and awesome flights even if we are totally unconscious and unaware of the journey. However, a tiny little disturbance that requires our conscious intervention may be catastrophic, as the external is not capable of handling it properly, and the little knowledge we have about the case, and the time we get aware of it, reduces the number of possibilities we have at hand to save the day. The more we realise we are the only ones capable of controlling the self, the more we understand why consciousness is the foundation and the key for that control.
We may be used to getting into our comfort zone, letting someone, or something else, take care of things related to our life. It may be a conditioning we receive during our childhood, where we have little or no responsibilities about what we do, being imposed to do things out of comprehension, with no rights to ask questions, delaying the process of observation and understanding to a moment we would have to perform the rewrite of that blind and sleepy “passenger mode” program imprinted into our unconscious mind.
While in childhood, we have little or no clearance of mind to say anything about the way our parents raise us. We start to understand what has happened in that past period ages ahead, if, one day, we are able to get conscious about all the events we have experienced during our life journey.
After getting conscious, and performing our mind training for a while, we are able to realise and understand what his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, is used to saying about the hygiene of emotions, and the needs of changing our educational system to accommodate observation, reasoning, and understanding at early ages. Such accommodation implies being conscious about ourselves, our mind, and the connection we have with the environment itself since the beginning, having little or no need to rewrite the blind conditioned “passenger mode” program we have received out of consciousness. It does not imply we have to be ready to assume the pilot’s seat at any moment, but it means we are conscious why understanding is the foundation to do it with no rush, and smoothly.
The moment we realise the meaning of asking questions, and being aware of what is happening within the path of our own life, it is the moment we understand the difference between action and reaction.
