Ideas come to our mind by the use of our consciousness, based on observation and reasoning, which are important steps to reach the understanding about what we are thinking. With no ideas we have no promotion or production of useful knowledge, neither to enhance the self nor help others. With no ideas we have just the conditioning followed out of consciousness, and derived from the execution of actions we think little or nothing about their true purpose. We are not able to answer simple questions like: “what?”, or “why?”. The automatic and conditioned answers just come out from the month to say: “it is like that, and it was always like that”. The moment we realise the use of consciousness implies asking questions about subjects we would like to obtain answers, motivating the investigation and search of knowledge required to perform such understanding, it is the moment we understand enhancing the self to step out of suffering can only be achieved by conscious acts.

The difference between the conscious and unconscious use of any kind of knowledge is the capability of understanding what happens in the present moment we are using it. The consciousness knows the sequence of steps and why such a sequence is like it is, while the unconscious mind is an “executor machine”, which receives a bunch of instructions to execute with little or no interest in asking questions required to understand how something works. Consciousness analyses to react, while the unconscious mind reacts before passing the stick to the consciousness, which has the capability to analyse what has just happened.

By performing our mind training to enhance the power of the mind, and therefore the capability of using our consciousness any time, and in any circumstance, we are just teaching the self to put the unconscious mind on the passenger’s seat, assuming the wheel just with permission and supervision of the conscious counterpart. Consciousness asks questions to the self before asking to someone else. Could I answer that question on my own? Is there any available knowledge I can access and learn about a given subject? Am I able to perform my own experiences to advance the understanding of a given domain? Is there someone whom could provide some hints to help me acquire understanding, while walking on that journey?

The moment we start generating ideas to map and recognise anything happening within the self, and in the surroundings, it is the moment we understand the importance of having consciousness at hand, and the fundamental role of mind training while stepping out of suffering.
