The source of self-enhancement requires overcoming our own Intelligence, an unnoticed drawback out of consciousness. I recommend any of you to visit the website of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which provides a source of knowledge about human rights related material. The moment we recognise our love nature in those fundamental rights, it is the moment we understand violating human rights of someone else is nothing more than violating and corrupting our own nature. If we are not able to see that, or if we believe there are exceptions allowing us to perform those violations, suffering is then part of our conditioned actions, and stepping out of it the only way to see what cannot be seen out of consciousness.

Let us use the wonderful intelligence we have access to through our brain, thinking about how changing the world is related to changing our own self. We cannot control or change another, and therefore we cannot change the world by changing or restricting the actions of an external source. Thus, changing the world starts by changing our own self, promoting our own evolution to step out of suffering in a conscious and meaningful way.

I am Brazilian by birth, and after I have started to have contact with, and understanding the teachings of Buddha, I have realised the connection between the evolution of the self and the environment itself. Imagine if I get prosecuted, followed, censured, or even tortured by the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN) by any reason, or any circumstance. The unconscious strategy to deal with that, while stepping into a period of suffering, would be trying to stop ABIN to do anything with me by force. That unconscious strategy implies direct or indirect conflict, together with all negativity derived from facing a government agency by using force instead of a non-judgemental attitude of observation, reasoning, and understanding, which is required to answer the following question: why has such government agency interest in doing that?

By force we achieve nothing but chaos. By force we may use a popular conflict resolution strategy derived from a deep state of suffering that says: “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. With that strategy at hand we may try to influence others to be obnoxious with someone we do not like, implying the only one clear purpose: the more enemies and conflicts established, the more suffering and difficulties observed with no need of spending time and resources for that.

The moment we get conscious about our love nature, being aware that chaos solves nothing, it is the moment we understand obnoxious situations can be used by a conscious mind to practise love and compassion attitudes, implying the realisation of a wonderful sentence of his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, that says: “Your enemy can be your best teacher”.

The moment we try to change or control someone else, it is the moment we are just feeding suffering deep inside. By changing the self to shine our light, and walking towards the path of a meaningful life, we are changing the world within our own perspective and relativity.
