In scenes, situations, or environments where we have to face challenges originated on the outside, it is a good strategy to observe, reason, and understand the situation before making an important move. Consciousness plays an important role in the execution of that strategy, as without consciousness we are not able to put it in practise. The moment we let the unconscious mind assume the driver’s seat, with little or no care about what is happening in the surroundings, the probability of slipping and sliding on the road of life is very high, configuring a big step into a state of suffering that may bounce on the road itself and its vicinities. The moment we realise we cannot control what is happening on the outside but we can prepare ourselves by performing our mind training, it is the moment we understand every experience, good or not good, provides us useful knowledge to enhance the self.

We need to take care of ourselves as a foundation to take care of someone else. There is no way to achieve inner peace the moment we are dependent on something external, out of our control. Anything coming or happening on the outside can change in a snap of a finger, and we can do little or nothing to control that change. Depending on that is like getting blind-folded into a car, where we put ourselves on the passenger’s seat, having little or no understanding about what is happening in the present moment, and being guided by a conditioning that taps little or nothing on the huge power we have inside.

The idea of awareness is a complement into the journey of activating the different levels of consciousness we are able to achieve. Awareness says to recognise what is happening in the surroundings while consciousness deals with the choices, the decisions we have to make, regarding the inputs received from that recognition.

The union of consciousness and awareness starts a process of awakening the self, a fundamental step for manifesting the power we have inside. The moment we start awakening the self, and recognising the knowledge present on experiences we have had contact with in the past, it is the moment we understand that helping another is nothing more than an exchange of knowledge supporting the process of making our own decisions.
