The more we walk towards the light to enhance our peace of mind, the more we understand consciousness is a fundamental tool we have to keep at hand. With no consciousness we may fall into the trap of seeing anything from a negative perspective, recognising a glass of water half empty instead of half full, a source of water we have at hand but we cannot see useful at the moment. We may seek support in the external world while the fundamental change should be performed within, deep in the self. The journey of getting answers starts with the understanding that the more knowledge we possess, the more knowledge we need to acquire. We rebuild the sequence of events, searching for something we were not able to observe in a specific moment in the past. We establish correlations we could not establish before. We perform reasoning to the self, in order to find out a single piece of knowledge that may be able to connect everything, like the lost piece of a puzzle we are trying to solve. We become a forensics scientist to understand, and explain based on evidence, how we could put all that evidence together to give us directions, or in the best-case scenarios, a proof that leverages the knowledge we were not able to comprehend in the past. The moment we realise the most useful knowledge is in the details our unconscious mind is not able to see, it is the moment we understand why it is important to perform our mind training, and keep our consciousness at hand.
Half full, or half empty? It is just a matter of perspective and interpretation to describe what we see in a given situation we have just experienced. The moment we look at what has just happened from a suffering perspective, we may come to conclusions that everything was pointless, useless, and we could not extract a single piece of knowledge from what has just happened in the scene. We may enter the loop of self-discrimination, pointing the finger within our own self to make sure the pain would be felt at the worst extension, and with little or no comprehension. In a conscious perspective, otherwise, we are able to see any situation from an angle that says: ”What could I learn from what has just happened in the experienced situation?”. Useful and wonderful knowledge can be extracted as an answer, implying the cultivation of a non-judgemental, kind, and compassionate attitude towards the self.
Using only the unconscious mind we are not able to acquire knowledge but being conditioned to believe out of understanding, walking in a dormant state with no idea of what happens within the self, and in the surroundings. The moment we start awakening the self with consciousness at hand, it is the moment we start to free ourselves from the slavery regime promoted by suffering. The more we learn and understand, the less we are afraid to face and comprehend.
