We have to understand that darkness is a noisy child wanting to be in control of everything around. We can imagine a child running everywhere and trying to influence us to do the same; however, instead of talking peacefully to get on terms, there is a loud voice demanding for an action. If we say something that is not in accordance with the required demand, our words have neither value nor effect. Like a peaceful and observing dog, the best strategy is to remain in silence, observing, analysing, and understanding that in silence we could realise darkness is balanced by light. We have just to perform our mind training, waiting for the moment light goes up to spread positive energy and transform the day in a beautiful and magical sunshine. Controlling the dark child inside is the best way to deal with darkness on the outside.

Let us imagine a day in an environment full of negative energy. A day experiencing criticism in everything we do; even an act of drinking water can be a target for discrimination and accusation of anything but not just drinking water. As Buddha has already transmitted such a wonderful knowledge about silence, we have to evaluate the moment to get in silence in our own perspective and relativity. In an environment full of negative energy, silence is the best strategy to use, as darkness has the peculiar characteristic to interpret anything from a negative angle, including our own silence.

It comes with experience the moment we have to use silence. It comes with mind training the moment we just use silence as a shield against external negativity, and a tool to keep our inner peace. We transform ourselves into a peaceful dog, like the one in the picture. We pause, observe, analyse, and understand what is going on. We just remain calm, cultivating our light inside, waiting for the light to become stronger on the outside. We can perform our mind training, nurturing the love we have inside; however, there is nothing more we can do but release the self from the ties of suffering.

The moment we realise suffering is approaching us, it is the moment our consciousness is the best companion we can ask for. It is wonderful to have persons beside us, loved ones to understand or support our decisions, making our day even more bright. We know we have family the moment we get such understanding and support. It does not mean they agree with every decision we make but, at least, family treats us with respect and honour. Even so, consciousness is the best companion because it is always available, no matter either the condition or situation, anytime, anywhere.

The moment we realise observation is the foundation of understanding, it is the moment we just know what we have to do in every situation that consciousness is on the driver’s seat.
