If I ask you what you see in the picture, how would you describe the image? Could you imagine how a person you know describes the same image? Could you imagine how a person you do not know performs the same task of describing such an image? When we experience something we are in a unique perspective and relativity, a position no one else is able to take in place on our behalf. The observation, the sensations, the analysis, the understanding, everything comes with a unique fingerprint, a mark of the self at the present moment we perform an observation. The more we get conscious about that, the more we understand the impermanence of the universe at its roots.
The path of a river looks like a static course, which we are able to see where it starts and where it ends at a specific moment we perform such observation. We follow the flow of water, we see the changing of the vegetation with the passage by different locations. We see the straight and curved paths, the blockages and detours, which may appear during the journey. Each river we observe is unique. Each river we observe changes as well as we change with the impermanence of the universe.
Knowledge behaves the same way as a river. We are able to see the beginning and the end of a content transmitted by a lesson, a teaching activity, a performed practise. Each one of us has a unique understanding of such a knowledge, based on our personal observation and analysis. To reject or accept knowledge we have to see a scientific proof, or make a proof on our own, which is valid only to ourselves, by applying that knowledge within our perspective and relativity.
Buddha has done a wonderful job of understanding suffering. How do we know that, as we do not know yet how to obtain scientific proofs about all the results of such incredible achievement? We apply the knowledge he has left to us, and we accept or reject it based on our personal proof obtained from such application. At the present moment, we can only observe our mind and be conscious about what is happening to ourselves, which explains why understanding our own suffering is a personal journey no one can do on our behalf.
Buddha has shown us a possible way based on his own perspective and relativity. Buddha has understood his own suffering, and we are able to understand ours in a similar way. If whether it works depends on ourselves, our consciousness, the power of our mind.
Consciousness is what bound us all, as consciousness is what we need to free ourselves from suffering. The moment we understand the power of our mind, it is the moment we achieve consciousness at its best, experiencing darkness but not being contaminated by it.
