While observing the self, and the surroundings, we have to be alert for the occurrence of any event, ensuring we would react as fast as we can to protect our integrity. We do not need to spend energy running, hiding, or making any activity associated with a negative conditioning we may have contact with. Instead, it is better to activate our consciousness to reserve energy for being used in the right moment, when we need it the most. That is the meaning of body and mind training: cultivating and nurturing our love nature, being prepared to face darkness anytime, anywhere, and in any circumstances.
When we are alone somewhere, we have the opportunity of getting such an isolated moment to perform some sort of observation. We can observe the self, and the rise of any negative emotion when we think about challenging situations. We can draw our personal strategy to deal with any negativity within, diminishing its influence in our actions and behaviours as much as we can in the present moment. It does not mean we do a brainless act of ignoring things happening within, and in the surroundings. It means we act and react consciously, according to what we are facing in a given scene we are part of.
From an external perspective, the observation of some actions and reactions may appear to be nonsense. The picture shows an example of that: why is a rabbit standing in the middle of a field like that? We may draw a lot of interpretations for what we observe on the outside, but they are just hypotheses and speculations about the true reasons of such observed behaviour. Therefore, it is better to focus on our own perspective and relativity, dealing with suffering on our own, like Buddha, the enlightened one, has done in ancient times.
Observation is the foundation for the decision making process we apply to anything we perform in life, including enhancing the self for achieving peace of mind.
