It is present in ancient knowledge how wonderful our nature of love is but, at the same time, we have difficulties to realise that regarding what a society, a community, or even human rights are to each one of us, even with laws addressing those subjects directly or indirectly. An amazing reflection we could perform is: are we conscious enough about the environment we live in at the present moment? Are we aware of history in regards of slavery and the exploratory values associated with the [currently] forbidden practise? Let us think about those questions a little. After a period of reflection we may realise there are two fundamental concepts in life: (1) not harming others; and (2) not harming the self with negativity. The moment we violate one of those concepts we step into a state of suffering. From suffering we expect nothing but lack of consciousness. Let us awaken about that.
Let us imagine we are a slave in the period that slavery were a common practise. Let us imagine we have an owner, whom has the rights to control everything we could and we could not do, even if it is against our own will. Let us imagine as a property of the owner, such an owner may perform any kind of experience with us, no matter how awful such a experience is, e.g., punishing with physical harm any act considered inappropriate by the owner. What would be our reaction? Could we imagine that? How would be a life living in a condition where everything is done without our consent, and legally supported? It is not much difficult to imagine that, as a slave, the exposition to negativity would not be a rare event. It is not much difficult also to realise the only way to support such a condition is by training our mind to face anything until we could change the laws to prevent slavery to be a common and legal practise.
Anyone whom has stepped into a state of suffering, acting out of consciousness against the ones promoting slavery, has contributed little or nothing to the enhancement of human rights at that period in history.
By thinking about slavery, and putting ourselves in the refered position, we may realise either harming others or embracing negativity are things we are able to see in states of suffering. The lack of consciousness is indeed an ancient problem, as it is ancient too the means to deal with it.
The moment we realise we have all the tools at hand to improve the self, even if we are in a position we have not much resources and influence, it is the moment we understand anything we do in the path towards the light starts with such improvement.
