Let us tap into the ancient knowledge, contacting our ancestors to understand the ripple effect of darkness, to diminish it with the opposite ripple effect of light. We see generation after generation the transmission of values from family member to family member, the way of speaking, the way of trading, the influence, the ascending of positions, the politics, all can be done in darkness or in light. At darkness we create tragedies, wars, events such as the World War II and the Holocaust, and institutions such as organised crime. At light, we fight against such atrocities with kindness and compassion, a milenar practise to prevent a world of chaos.
It is time to get conscious about the ripple effect of darkness, the influence of past events in the behaviour [and the way of life] we live in the present moment. It is time to get conscious about what we call culture, which is derived from the way of life of our first ancestors, and the accumulation of all modifications performed by all our past generations.
We say education is the key of a better world, as it is through education we can influence and diminish the practise of discrimination, the return of slavery, the end of child abuse, negative actions performed more than 100, 1000 years ago, which dictate how we communicate, and how we don’t communicate.
The society has difficulties to deal with emotions, conditioned to respond and behaving according to the social status, a convention we have no knowledge of as children. As his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, says a child just wants to play, to have fun with others. There is no difference if the other child around is rich or poor, black or white, woman or man, Brazillian or American. There is no problem to have worked to get rich by own efforts but there is also no problem to be working in low income jobs. Everyone should have the same rights. Everyone should be treated as equals. Everyone should have the right of privacy, which is present in the universal declaration of human rights but violated by so many, as we can see through cases of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Moments where we could get at peace alone, with no interference of others, are priceless; no money can buy.
Do we want to fight corruption? We should stop corruption in our sphere of influence. Do we want to fight discrimination? We should stop the acts of discrimination ourselves. Do we want to stop organised crime? We should stop performing any action without knowing exactly the whys behind. Do we want to change the world? We should start changing ourselves first.
The moment we realise we don’t need to follow the majority to do what is right, to act with kindness and compassion, it is the moment each one of us, at our relativity, our sphere of influence, can start resonating the waves of love, which are able to generate a ripple effect capable of diminishing darkness, and balancing the universe again.
