It is all about expectations. We should not raise our expectations too high, as we live surrounded by a world where impermanence dictates the rhythm. We have to believe in ourselves but be conscious the interaction with the world around us is ruled by uncertainty. It is our natural capability to read and calculate the probabilities of life, which makes all the uncertainties to appear as illusions of certainty. As a skillful fisherman, we have to learn how to read the environment to put our expectations to a reasonable level.
Expectation is something we should be conscious about. It varies from person to person, and from situation to situation. Expectation is something we should learn to be grateful whatever the outcome.
To control our expectations is to master the capability to listen to our senses. We have to believe in ourselves and to be conscious we have not all the answers at hand. We have to trust our instincts and to fine-tune our mind and body with the lessons we extract from every situation presented to us. We have to learn how to read the environment in order to choose an approach, which [at the present moment] appears to provide the best probabilities of a successful outcome.
Mind and body training are important tools, which help us to improve ourselves; to be better prepared to control our expectations. We have to perform our training by ourselves, even if we have been guided by someone else. We have to be ready, to be prepared to go fishing at any time, anywhere. We cannot do a pause on life and expect no change to the outside.
When we realise life is all about expectations, we are able to see the light even when in the darkest situations.
