If we ask the self: What is more important - material values or knowledge? We need to think about those two options to decide what's worth more to the self. After answering that aforementioned question, if we ask the self: What is more important - knowledge or life? We also need to think about those two options, putting on the scale the ability to acquire information in the attempt to know how something works, or letting life—the unique and pure existing source of genuine love—follow its natural course. When we answer those two questions to put material values, knowledge, and life in the priority order that makes sense to the self, depending on what we have decided, it’ll be known just by the result of such a simple but fundamental decision if we are whether experiencing a period of suffering. The moment we realise the true relation among material values, knowledge, and life, it is the moment we understand our love nature.
The questions are simple to ask and simple to answer if we keep consciousness at hand no matter the circumstances. It’s easy to realise and understand the uniqueness of life, and the beauty of its relationship with the impermanence of the universe that we are able to experience every single day of our life journey. There’s no doubt to a conscious mind what material values, knowledge, and life represent to the self, and to everything in the environment we are inserted into. The dilemma is just posed before us when we have to face darkness and the negative conditioning we are subjected to, which implies an additional effort to keep our decision of ordering life in the first place, followed by knowledge, and at the last position, filled by material values. Why does a conscious mind choose that ordering? The answer is also simple.
Everything we experience is just possible to be experienced because we have received the precious and unique gift of life. With no life, there is nothing more, which means no way to acquire either knowledge or material values. Next, we have knowledge, which implies learning something useful to enhance life, implying the step into our personal evolution. The more knowledge we possess, the easier it’ll be to acquire the proper wisdom to understand everything we would like to understand during our life journey. Finally, in the last position, we put material values, which the acquisition is—the majority of the time—a consequence of applying and combining different pieces of knowledge together to transform natural resources into something useful to our life journey, which then adds value to what we have just designed, engineered, and produced.
The problem starts when a mind experiencing suffering begins to distort the intrinsic and natural order and meaning of life, knowledge, and material values, generating the presence of a negative energy moving the wheel of time back to the period where knowledge were used just for guaranteeing we could survive into an environment we knew little or nothing about.
The path of light is then distinguished from the path of darkness because of the intrinsic, conscious, and genuine sense of keeping life, knowledge, and material values at the order they have been mentioned in this sentence, and with the genuine meaning that makes such an order aligned with our love nature. The moment we realise what the path of light is within our own perspective and relativity, it is the moment we understand why the change starts deep within, enabling the self to see, recognise, and understand the presence of darkness, the illusions we have contact with, and what are the challenges and difficulties we have to face and deal with in the environment we are inserted into.
If we keep the self on the path of light, we head towards the experience of a genuine and meaningful life journey. Let’s remember: there is no darkness before light.
