When we are incorporating the spirit of caring about life as the ultimate goal, two things noticed are the sense of justice and the good intentions in every single action performed. However, it is extremely difficult to segregate suffering from those two characteristics, as consciousness is still under development, and the sense of justice can be easily disturbed by negative emotions experienced. Keeping the smile in order to develop a kind, compassionate, and non-judgemental attitude towards the self and others is what makes the growth of light from the inside out part of the path to achieve peace of mind.
Performing our mind training to increase the awareness about anything we have contact with, implies moments of disturbance. Moments we have no clear idea that something we are experiencing is whether good; something we have contact with is really whether beneficial to the self; or something we find to be interesting being actually a conditioned and unconscious way to deal with what we see before our naked eyes. No worries about disturbances. It is OK not being able to see through our third eye just right from the beginning.
The path towards a meaningful life is a journey of self-enhancement and growth. There is no single person with all knowledge required to deal with all challenges and difficulties life may present to us, not even Buddha, the enlightened one. While experiencing suffering we pay so much attention to things we need to put aside, such as the negative criticism, opinions, and judgements from others. Every negative charge coming from the outside, mainly if it is generated from another person, does not require our proper attention or time. Not even if the person insists on delivering such negativity towards ourselves. It does not mean we step into a period of suffering to start ignoring or being indifferent to such a person. It actually means we listen but incorporate none of the negative charges we are subjected to. The negativity will pass and that source of light, the life such a person has been gifted, is still there. That is the mindset we need to use in order to prevent stepping into the path of negative conditioning performed by darkness, which may culminate into a path of violence and great suffering.
It is much better to keep a vivid and genuine smile than accepting with no understanding anything imposed to the self from the outside.
