Who has the power to control how we start developing the self, aside from the standards we may observe within the vicinity, is not the outside but the self all alone. The way we start our own evolution depends directly on the goal we set in the present moment. The journey could be more difficult, challenging, mysterious, or even clouded. However, keeping consciousness at hand enables the self to tap into one of the most wonderful intrinsic abilities we possess: the power of adaptation to anything we are experiencing. Standards make it easy for the unconscious mind to get a starting point, being an easy catch to follow. Standards are a measure of majority instead of a specificity for our singularity. The decision whether to follow standards is ours to make, and the benefits of our decision are ours to take. We may be different, following distinshighed approaches and paths. However, if both keep care about life as the ultimate goal, our love nature would flourish in many beautiful variations.
We may be classified as a person outside the standards observed in society. However, do we have to fit in any standard at all? The answer is a reflection we could perform within our own perspective and relativity.
We are creatures of the same species but singular and unique about the content of our own characteristics. We are identified as members of the same group because our characteristics match the standards required by such membership. However, even when we are part of a group we still keep our uniqueness, no matter how hard we follow the standards we are subjected to. Our uniqueness is the precious gift associated with the life we have received. Our uniqueness is the jewel of our existence, and it is such uniqueness we develop every single day by living our life, whether we are experiencing a period of suffering.
The standards we follow, or the classification we are subjected to, are oversimplified and external perspectives of the universe we have access to within. They cannot be right or wrong, as they are what they are: an outside measure representing the lack of understanding about something only one person has the ability to understand properly: the self. It is ancient knowledge, and Buddha, the enlightened one, is one of the ancient figures disseminating our capability for discovering what preciosity we have inside.
We do not have to follow the same path. We just need to be aligned with the universe and its impermanence, nurturing life no matter how we do it, and whether it is the standard we have contact with.
