While in the race of our path we have to concentrate our efforts to improve ourselves, to be better than we were the moment before, no matter what is going on in the surroundings. We have to be conscious about the tools we have at hand, the limitations we need to overcome, the ground we are at the present moment, and prepared to face anything coming from the outside that jumps right in front of us.
The improvement of the self is a solo race, a lifetime journey, which the challenge is clear as crystal: to be the better version of ourselves. The hard work within that journey is to prevent the outside from influencing the inside, from influencing our decision making process, and therefore from making such a journey harder than it already is.
We need to be conscious not to focus on a specific aspect of the outside world. We have to be aware the world is full of deception, which exists to disturb the natural balance between light and darkness. The profit of chaos is quite obvious through human and drug trafficking, and the resulting chemical dependency, which could be prevented at its roots. The more weak a person’s mind is, the more suitable to fall down into the exploration path that person is close to.
From moment to moment we have to analyse the direction we race to, and the requirement to investigate our own mind, and our own feelings. His holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, is used to saying we need to investigate, and we need to perform the hygiene of our emotions. Those actions are part of the self-care, the achievement of consciousness towards ourselves.
The speed we move towards the light depends on what we face at the present moment. There is no gain to speed up unconsciously, as it is easy to put a rock in the middle of the road to break the wheel of progress.
The moment we realise there are always distractions from the outside, it is the moment we are able to consciously recognise their existence, and to make progress in our mind training with help of their presence.
