We have to train our mind in order to be conscious about the environment we live, the challenges we face, the reactions we make, and the outcome we expect. We have to train our mind to reflect upon ourselves and others, to take the past as knowledge to face the present. We have to know everytime we manifest negative emotions such as anger and sadness we disrespect ourselves alone, no matter how awful or obnoxious the environment we live in.

As human beings we are not prone to perfection. Everyone makes mistakes, and to disrespect ourselves in the rise of negative emotions is one of them. It is indeed hard work to control our negative emotions but it is also important to gain consciousness about respect.

Respect is not something we do towards others but ourselves. To show respect to another person is to acknowledge we have respect to ourselves and we are proud to present such respect to others.

Everytime we let our negative emotions influence our decision making process, which implies the manifestation of negative emotions, we show disrespect towards ourselves. We disrespect our reasoning capability, we disrespect our education level, we disrespect our inner balance, we disrespect our consciousness, we disrespect our true nature.

There is no such concept of disrespecting others. It is an illusion we get used to living with no questions asked. The moment we get conscious about what respect means, we are able to realise it is everything related to ourselves. When we humiliate, discriminate, or are indifferent towards another, we are in disrespect about our nature of love and compassion. If we do it for pleasure, a desire of being in control, for social experiences, or for fun, we just acknowledge we are in suffering.

The moment we respond an act of humiliation, discrimination, indifference, or ostracism, in the same way, with love and compassion out of the table, we present our self-disrespect to others, and we embrace the negativity present in the environment.

Being respectful is a quality, a quality about ourselves that [by nature] we are proud to show. Every moment we are not respectful, it is a moment we put such quality away, and we show the suffering we experience within.
