What’s the meaning of complete silence in Buddhism? It’s a simple concept we need to clearly understand the purpose. Every time we see someone who genuinely cares about life as the ultimate goal in complete silence, not even saying anything even if a harmful action is about to be performed, it means a harmful situation has already happened and that conscious mind has finally understood there’s no salvation or no argument with a mind in suffering who’ll never listen. The only option such a conscious mind gets at hand is being well-prepared to defend the self if any situation escalates to a physical confrontation. It means that we’ve reached a state where it gets pointless and useless to say or do anything besides the need to apply self-defence manoeuvres. Let’s practise in order to enhance the self, cultivating and nurturing the beautiful light we’ve deep within while walking the path towards a meaningful life no matter the circumstances.
It’s extremely important we understand the meaning of complete silence in Buddhism. It’s also important that we differentiate moments of quietness from what a moment of complete silence really is. Those are extremely rare, and they’re only used as the ultimate stage of a situation that has no more room for any type of negotiation or interaction. The difference between being quiet and in complete silence is extremely subtle. Being quiet means to pay attention to what is happening or being done in order to understand the scene and situation we’re part of. Being in complete silence is the ultimate stage, which means the situation is well-understood and there’s nothing more to be added or performed beside self-defence manoeuvres if required to in a given situation leading to harmful actions towards the self.
The better we realise and understand the subtle difference between quietness and complete silence, the easier it’s to understand the importance of performing our body and mind training in a conscious and meaningful way.
