It’s all about living a meaningful life, understanding that it’s important to generate love and happiness from the inside out, preparing the self to deal with any obnoxious situations we may experience in the environment we’re inserted into. It’s also important to wisely use our third eye, distancing the self from people who’re stabbing a knife in our back, and at the same time, either playing dead or faking intentions before the self. It’s much better to walk alone and safe than to be stabbed in the back without realising and understanding where the external source of challenges and difficulties is. If we cannot establish a genuine and trustworthy relationship with someone else by any reason, it’s better to walk alone until we do than seeking refuge guided by someone else who’s leading us to a trap towards darkness.
It’s important to know exactly where we’re walking, and who’re the people we’ve contact with in the present moment. The ability to recognise and understand the presence of darkness, and therefore, the true intentions of someone else approaching us, comes with time and the evolution of our body and mind training. It’s also important to give any person the benefit of doubt, preventing the self from jumping into conclusions before carefully analysing the scene and the situation we’re experiencing. It’s just when we get sure we’re stepping into a no trustworthy ground that we understand the need to move forward, putting ourselves out from a trap that may lead us to embrace darkness and step into an infinite loop of suffering.
Let’s be careful about who we choose to call family, as the meaning of family is much greater than any blood relation we may have with someone else. Family means unconditional trust, which is exactly what we need when seeking refuge. In Buddhism, family is translated to Sangha, the community we establish with others we put unconditional trust on, which may be composed by blood relatives although blood relation isn’t a requirement for doing so.
The moment we realise we’re surrounded by people we can put unconditional trust on, it’s the moment we get ready to understand the astonishing benefit of the three jewels of Buddhism, seeking refuge and relaxing the most while walking the path towards a meaningful life no matter the circumstances.
