When we are in a scenario where we do not feel being a part of is the moment we need our consciousness the most. The feeling of lab rat could be described by the conscious act of not identifying the self with the behaviour observed in the environment we are inserted into. Keeping peace of mind prevents opening room for negative conditioning. As a consequence, the more we use our consciousness to walk through this type of scenario, the more we shield the self against any negative energy we have contact with. By doing that, we diminish the probability of generating such negativity from the inside out, even at moments we may step into a period of suffering.
From time to time we may be exposed to situations, environments, scenes, or persons presenting behaviours we have little or no identification with, implying those behaviours as not part of our love nature. Kindness and compassion are usually out of the table, letting room for the negative conditioning of repetitive, and obnoxious, lack of care about life. Consciousness is what we need at hand to face challenges presented in those environments, in order to keep our kind, compassionate, and non-judgemental attitudes.
Walking through a nasty environment is not an easy task to perform, and it requires the love-kindness recipe that is imprinted into our love nature, and manifested from the inside out. For each moment we may feel negativity is kicking in, we need to counterbalance it by generating kindness and compassion from within, which could be achieved by being soft with the self, and someone else we have contact with, as much as we can. Practising the act of being soft is one wonderful exercise to support achieving peace of mind, representing one trace of our mind training that we can practise anytime, anywhere, and at any circumstances.
Buddha, the enlightened one, has disseminated in his teachings the need of being soft while in the journey of understanding our own suffering. Being soft is an act that represents our ability to be aware and awake to the fact we do not have all the answers to any situation we may experience, implying a non-judgemental attitude to enable the understanding of what cannot be understood or seen out of consciousness.
The moment we realise we need our consciousness the most to walk towards the path of a meaningful life, it is the moment we understand keeping our peace of mind is required to recognise every source triggering the feeling of lab rat within.
